During World War II, only 982 refugees from the European Holocaust were allowed entry into the United States. Using archival footage and interviews, Only 982 tells the story of cousins Rikica, David and Ella Levi, three Jewish refugees, as they made the pilgrimage from Yugoslavia to Naples, Italy where they were joined by 3,000 other refugees vying for only 1,000 spots on the Henry Gibbons ship to America. After signing documents that stated they would promise to return to Yugoslavia after the war, the Levi family boarded the ship for New York. The film documents their journey and the 18 months they spent at Fort Ontario.
